Betty Brown loves to play music and to dance. But Betty didn't start out to be a DJ and learned to DJ because she was trying to learn to dance and didn't have any music. The club owner, Jean Steele, where lessons were taught said she could not afford a DJ but had vinyl records from her daytime dance classes in the DJ booth and if Betty really wanted music she would figure out what to play. Jean and Betty would stay after the club closed and Betty would play the vinyl record she found at flea markets and yard sales. They would stay up until almost dawn, before Betty went to her regular job, so she could learn about the beat and what makes a good dance song. 30 + years later Betty is still collecting vinyl.
Eventually Jean hired Betty to play on the weekends if a DJ didn't show up. It has been the best of times & she has met a lot of nice people. Betty still has a regular job but travels several times a month to play music as far away from home as Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania or Cincinnati, Ohio, and you'll see her at Ocean Drive for SOS and Midwinter.
Betty was inducted into the DJ Hall of Fame in 2016. Betty is renovating a 1953 house in Charleston South Carolina and most people don't know that she bakes cakes. Her favorite way to spend a day is on the boat on the creek and all-day beach days.
